Investing in Healthcare Innovation: Can Houston Be Competitive?
Houston's tremendous wealth has contributed to the success of world-renowned health care systems and academic medical centers in the Texas Medical Center and throughout the metropolitan area. Yet many other cities surpass Houston in fostering startup health IT, biotech and other health technology companies that will drive future progress in both human health and financial growth. At this event, Lisa Suennen, senior managing director at GE Ventures the firm's health care venture fund participates in a conversation with Vivian Ho, director of the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences, to explore the economic benefits that investing in health care can bring to cities. They will discuss trends in health care venture capital and what lessons from Silicon Valley are transferable to other locations, as well as what strategies Houston needs to be successful in the rapidly growing sector of health care venture capital.
