Bio
Giselle Rodriguez Greenwood wanted to be a journalist, since she was ten. Then, she began as a writer for her junior high newspaper. Today, Greenwood is the first Hispanic editor-in-chief of the Houston Business Journal, responsible for newsroom and strategic direction of online and print news products. She first joined HBJ in 2013 as managing editor. Greenwood’s career in journalism has been primarily in business news. Prior to joining HBJ, she worked at the Austin Business Journal for five years, where she started as the tech reporter and later became assistant managing editor. She also worked at VentureWire, a New York-based publication owned by Dow Jones that covers venture capital and technology. Prior to joining the HBJ, Giselle served as manager of marketing communications at Kingwood-based Insperity, a job that brought her back to Houston in 2009. Greenwood, daughter of her Colombian father and Cuban mother reflected immigrant lifestyle. Her family moved from New York City, where she was born, to Cypress, Texas in the late ’70s. She graduated from Cy-Fair High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and has been named Best Reporter by the Austin chapter of Public Relations Society of America. In addition, she received awards from the American City Business Journals for her technology news coverage. Also, she stays engaged with the community by mentoring high school students, with a particular emphasis on helping them reach their goals of attending an institution of higher education, whether it be a four-year college or a technical trade school. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 18 years and her two sons, ages 6 and 9.
